Chamber music by a well-connected Romantic: in Paris, Mangold moved among Berlioz, Chopin and Liszt and reported for Schumann's “Neue Zeitschrift für Musik”. His string quartet swaps the second violin for a double bass – with an almost symphonic fullness of sound.
